It's easy to feel powerless against an organized pair: they go in, kill you or take the lane before you can react. But almost all strong duos depend on specific moments, and if you recognize them, you can avoid them.
1. Recognize their plan at level 1
Look at which champions they picked and what plan they suggest:
- Fast entry (engage). They'll wait for a specific level to go in. Keep your distance and don't stay in their range.
- Protection (enchanter). They'll farm calmly. Pressure with short trades before they reach their spike.
- Wear-down (poke). They'll take your health down with ranged abilities. Get close when they spend their resources or back off to heal.
You don't need to know the exact champion: sensing what they want is enough.
2. Avoid their level 2
Level 2 is the moment when many pairs have their first play. To avoid it:
- Stand close to your tower. Make the enemy come to you.
- Keep your escape spell ready. Don't spend it on an unimportant trade.
- Watch the bushes. Many entries start from there.
3. Ask the jungler for help early
A jungler can't guess that your lane is struggling. Call it with a ping and a phrase: "strong duo, I need help at level 3". It's better for a gank to arrive early than after you've died.
4. Drain their resources
When they use their important abilities, they'll have a gap in which they can't go in. That's where you can make a trade, push the wave or make a play away from the lane.
5. And if you lose the lane
It's fine, the game isn't decided there. Then:
- Farm safely and avoid unnecessary deaths.
- Ask for help with neutral objectives on the map instead of trying to recover the lane at all costs.
- Play defensively and look for the moment when your team has an advantage elsewhere.
Knowing how the duos on the other side work also helps you play them better. See how the lanes of Samira + Leona or Draven + Thresh are set up and think about what you'd do if you were the enemy.
