When to hit

  1. 2First trade with Nami's E.
  2. 3All-in if the bubble lands.
  3. 6Both have their ultimate: force the 2v2.
  4. 13Lucian with 2-3 items: close it out if you're ahead.

Key combo level 3Verify order

  1. Nami Q
  2. Lucian E
  3. Q + W
  4. Nami W

Watch out for long-range poke and hard engage (Leona, Nautilus). Don't go in without Nami's E.

Key combo: Lucian + NamiHow to do the level 3 combo, step by step.

Lucian needs constant pressure and abilities ready; Nami gives him crowd control (the bubble), healing and attack empowerment, which makes this an all-in duo that is very hard to withstand between levels 2 and 6.

Style Aggressive, wins the lane through trades and engages
Difficulty Medium (Nami's bubble and Lucian's entry have to be in sync) To verify
Strong at Levels 2-6, first half of the game
Weak against Long-range poke and hard engages

Why it works

  1. Lucian's passive triggers off what Nami does. According to the 16.21 patch data, Lucian deals bonus magic damage on his next 2 attacks when he receives a heal or shield from an ally, or when he's near an immobilized enemy. Nami's W heals him and her Q immobilizes: both trigger that extra. On top of that, Nami's E makes Lucian's spells and basic attacks deal bonus magic damage and slow. To verify
  2. The bubble turns a trade into a safe all-in. If Nami's Q lands, the enemy can't move away while Lucian goes in with his E and completes the rotation.
  3. Healing shortens the cost of the trade. Nami's W heals Lucian and damages the enemy, and that heal triggers his passive's extra damage; Lucian can extend the trade with high health.
  4. Two ultimates that complement each other. Nami's crowd control keeps the enemy still so Lucian can channel his R; her own R (the wave) can start or protect in fights.
  5. Early pressure. If you win the lane, the jungler can help turn it into objectives.

Weak points: Lucian has medium range (500) and needs to get close, Nami is fragile, and the whole duo depends on landing the bubble. They lose value if the enemy pokes constantly or if there's no wave to go in on.

Powerspikes by level

Level What changes How to play it
1 Even. Lucian can already threaten with his Q through minions. Play for the wave, don't force; look for free damage with Lucian's Q.
2 Lucian's first spike: two abilities. First trade with Nami's E on Lucian.
3 Nami's spike: she now has Q, W and E. First real all-in if you have the wave and bush control.
4-5 Abilities rank up. Keep the pressure and prepare the recall or the wave.
6 Lane peak: both have their R. The best window to force the 2v2 and leave the enemy without resources.
Lucian's first item Jump in damage on attacks. Carries more weight in the lane; force trades or roam toward objectives.
9-11 More cooldown reduction and range on Nami's abilities. Control vision, use the second bubble to fight.
13-16 Lucian with 2-3 items. If you're ahead, close it out; if not, avoid long fights against tanks.

Combos by level

Notation: A = auto-attack (with a double shot if an ability was used before). Order and ranges are checked in practice before publishing.

Level 1-2: basic trade

  1. Nami: E on Lucian.
  2. Lucian: Q through a minion toward the enemy → A.
  3. Back off out of response range.

Level 3: entry with the bubble

  1. Nami: Q (bubble) on the enemy; if it lands, the combo goes in.
  2. Lucian: E toward the target → A → Q → A → W → A. To verify
  3. Nami: W on Lucian during the combo to heal and damage.
  4. Leave with Lucian's E if the enemy calls for the jungler.

Level 6+: full all-in

  1. Nami: Q (bubble).
  2. Lucian: E + combo of abilities and auto-attacks.
  3. Lucian: R while the enemy stays controlled; Nami's R to extend the control or knock back if the enemy jungler arrives.

Passive shots reduce the cooldown of Lucian's E, so he can chain entries and exits during the combo.

Combo mistakes: spending the bubble blindly, going in without Nami's E active, or channeling Lucian's R without crowd control.

Lane plan

  • Waves: push with Lucian if you want pressure, or freeze near your tower if the enemy is strong at poke.
  • Bushes: use the bush to hide Nami's E and go in with the bubble.
  • Recalls: go back when you have Lucian's key item, not when the support's resources run out.
  • Jungle: ask for help at levels 3-6; a well-placed bubble is usually worth a kill.

Runes and summoner spells

Variant against poke: Nami with Resolve (Guardian) to protect Lucian.

Items by matchup

To verify

Enemy Lucian (ADC) Nami (support) Why
Long-range poke Early defensive first item, armor boots Healing and shield item Reduces accumulated damage before going in
Hard engage (Leona / Nautilus + Draven / Samira) Survival item and Mercury's Treads Item that protects or cancels the entry Avoid dying on the first engage
Duo with lots of healing Anti-heal item Anti-heal item Reduces their sustain
Tanks Armor penetration item Utility item A long fight against tanks is worse for Lucian

Matchups

Enemy Result Why
Long-range poke duos Struggles Lucian (range 500) has to get close and is exposed to poke
Hard engage duos Depends If the bubble lands first, wins; if not, loses
Passive duos with little threat Wins Lucian can pressure at his own pace
Tanks with CC Even CC limits the entry

Who to ban and what to pick if you get banned

  • Useful bans: hard engages that cancel their entry and poke that forces them to back off. Pending
  • Alternatives: if Lucian is banned, Nami pairs with other burst or short-range ADCs; if Nami is banned, another enchanter with crowd control. To verify

Common mistakes

  1. Throwing the bubble without intent.
  2. Going in with Lucian without Nami's E available.
  3. Forcing without a wave or bush control.
  4. Not leaving when the enemy jungler appears.
  5. Spending Lucian's R without crowd control.

How to play against Lucian + Nami

Respect levels 2 to 6: that's their power window. Keep your distance and avoid being pinned by the bubble. With long-range poke or your own crowd control (engage, slow) you go from being afraid to being able to pressure them. Save your escape for when the bubble is on cooldown.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lucian + Nami good for climbing? It works if there's good communication in lane; if your support doesn't land the bubble, it loses value. To verify

Which level is best for an all-in? Level 3 with the bubble available, and again at level 6 with both ultimates.

Which runes should I take? See the runes table. Adjust depending on whether the enemy has a lot of poke or crowd control.

How do you play against poke? Defensively, freeze the wave and look for short entries with the bubble available.

What does Nami's E do on Lucian? For a short time, his spells and basic attacks deal bonus magic damage and slow the target.
